Why Lurie Favor Daniels Sees Trump’s Education Plan as an Attack on Women’s Autonomy
Lurie Favor Daniels is warning people not to miss what she calls a quiet but devastating move by the Trump administration: dismantling key parts of the Department of Education.
“There’s so much dismantling of things and so much harm happening,” guest Monifa Bandele, founder of Moms Rising, says in the clip below, noting that major announcements often drop “when other news is happening, thinking people are not going to read it.”
It is, in her words, “an attack on our public education.” She points to plans that would gut federal support for “early education, for secondary school, and also for college prep,” systems families rely on every day. “These are very important and key systems,” she says, and weakening them threatens the entire education pipeline.
Daniels is extremely concerned about the way that education cuts connect to women’s economic freedom and condemns the administration slashing the list of professional degrees that qualify for expanded student loan access, calling it “a whole a-- cut from 2,000 positions down to around 600 positions,” while Bandele notes that many of the roles on the chopping block are “typically occupied by women,” including nursing and physician assistant tracks. “This is making women dependent,” she warns.
“The ability to choose differently is what it is they’re trying to eliminate.” - Lurie Daniel Favors
