The San Antonio Spurs have just landed a big star in De’Aaron Fox to pair with rising star, Victor Wembanyama.
And they pulled it off without losing any of their core players.
San Antonio acquired Fox in a three-team deal with the Sacramento Kings and the Chicago Bulls. The Kings received star player Zack LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first-round draft picks, and three second round draft picks.
The Bulls received Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, and their own 2025 draft pick via the spurs.
And the Spurs landed De’Aaron Fox and Jordan McLaughlin.
This signing is significant as Fox has averaged 25 points a game in four out of the last five years. The young guard is regarded as one the best point guards in the NBA. Not only can he score but he is also an amazing facilitator as he averages 6 assists per game in his career.
That number should escalate after being paired with one of the best big men in the game. A lob threat like Wemby will easily have Fox flirting with double-digit assist nightly.
Both Fox and Wembanyama can thrive in the pick and roll game. An elite guard takes the focus off Wembanyama as he can move without the ball in his hand and be fed the ball in his favorable spots. An elite big man gives Fox free space and control. Wembanyama can pull opposing centers and forwards away from the rim, giving Fox a lot of freedom to make moves.
The deal also enable San Antonio to keep their core players and first round picks that they received form the Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks. One of those players is second leading scorer in Devin Vassell, who is currently averaging 16 points per game this season. Vassel was the 11th pick in the 2020 draft by the Spurs.
