Karen Hunter Talks Deals, Discipline and Dodging Holiday Consumer Traps
This holiday season, Karen Hunter sits down with Mary Beth Quirk to help us make sense of last-minute shopping without the panic.
Quirk, managing editor of Shopping and Deals at Consumer Reports, shares how years of freelancing and deep product testing led her to guiding readers through the year's most overwhelming shopping moments.
The pair discuss everything from Black Friday leftovers to the realities of brand loyalty, or the lack of it. Quirk explains that finding a deal is easy, but finding a good product that lasts is the real win.
“If you’re going to spend your money, it should be something that lasts you for a long time,” she says, adding that she personally avoids paying full price whenever possible, while offering practical advice on watching prices, bookmarking products and resisting impulse buys designed to trigger regret.
Hunter admits she is “not participating in Christmas,” but still wants to know “what is out there,” —as do we all.
